Conservative Feminism

Feminism: “The advocacy of women’s rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes” -Oxforddictionaries.com

Feminism began as something that was supposed to help all women be treated as equal with men. It has since transformed into a liberal ideology where if you don’t agree with liberal issues (like abortion or sexuality) then you aren’t a feminist, therefore, you are against women. Even if you are one.

Conservative feminism isn’t something that the left seems to understand. They think that conservative women aren’t feminists. They think that we are all super submissive wives that don’t believe in women’s rights. This couldn’t be further from the truth. But like I said, they have formed their own definition of the word and if you don’t agree with their issues, you aren’t one. End of story. Well, sorry to tell you. We have our own definition as well and it’s much more ‘feminist’ than yours.

Conservative feminism means living the life you choose and having equal opportunity (NOT equal outcome). For example, if Johnny and Sarah both want to go to college and have successful careers, they both have the SAME opportunity to do so. But if Johnny decides to go into a STEM field and Sarah wants to major in art history, (or vice versa) It’s obvious that Johnny is going to make more money. It’s not because men make more money, it’s common knowledge that people in STEM fields make more money over those in liberal arts.

Conservatism means taking responsibility for your own actions, and to not depend on anyone. Not playing a victim. Women are not a special interest group, where we need special laws to keep someone from hurting our feelings. We don’t need to rely on the government  to take care of us. We don’t need ‘trigger warnings’ or ‘safe spaces’ or censorship to make us ‘feel better’.

“A feminist is a woman who lives the life she chooses and uses all her God-given gifts, and always remember that a leader is not born, but made. Choose leadership.”-Carly Fiorina

I love that quote. It’s something that I think of often. Just because I’m pro-life does not mean I am not a feminist. Just because I am #NeverHillary does not mean I am against women. Just because I am a Republican, does not mean that I don’t support women’s issues. News flash, every issue is a woman’s issue.

I guess what I am trying to say is that Conservatives get a bad rep for not being feminists (for some reason…) but I can assure you that conservative feminism is much more ‘feminist’ than mainstream feminism.
