Cenk Uygur Resigns Over Sexist Comments

Cenk Uygur, founder of The Young Turks and progressive Icon, has stepped down from his position with the Justice Democrats along with David Koeller over sexist comments that they made in early 2000’s. This discovery was unearthed by the wrap, in which Uygur said women were genetically flawed because they don’t want to have sex enough.

Uygur also wrote a blog titled “The Rules of Dating,” in which he sets guidelines as to what women should do when dating a man. One excerpt follows as such:

“Rule 1: There must be some serious making out by the third date. If I haven’t felt your tits by then, things are not about to last much longer. In fact, if you don’t get back on track by the fourth date, you’re done.”

“Rule 2: There must be orgasm by the fifth date.”

In another blog post, Mr. Uygur claims to be “drowning in a sea of tits.” To give this quote context Mr. Uygur was in Miami at the time and wrote about his views on women. From this blog posts, it is clear that when this post was written at the time Mr. Uygur was clearly seeing women as intimate sex objects, to fulfill his sexual gratification after all according to him in his blog “the genes of women are flawed.”

David Koeller, a friend of Mr. Uygur and Senior Vice President of operations at The Young Turks, wrote on a blog post during his road trip in 2004 with Mr. Uygur that he was speaking to “three whores in training.”

Once these abhorrent blog posts were discovered Justice Democrats immediately announced on Twitter:

We are deeply disturbed by recent news regarding & David Koller. Their language and conduct is horrifying and does not reflect our values at Justice Democrats. We would be hypocrites to not act immediately and ask for their resignation. Here is our official statement:

While apologizing, Cenk’s defended himself saying that he made those comments when he was a “conservative” stating that “If someone said that today, I would heavily criticize them on the show and rightfully so, and I have. I’ve criticized myself over the years.”

“I had not yet matured and I was still a conservative who thought that stuff was politically incorrect and edgy. When you read it now, it looks really, honestly, ugly. And it’s very uncomfortable to read.”

CLARIFICATION: Article has been updated to more clearly pronounce that Uygur resigned from his position at the Justice Democrats.

  1. The stupid left makes their own resing while the right tries to get theirs elected and voted one in as president. When Trump did it was locker talk and they rewarded him with the presidency. the left kicks and screams and gets rid of the people who are in a position to help.

  2. They fired a guy last month based on highly disputed facts and absolutely no due process. I did not see these two stand up for that guy. Cenk is an attorney and while due process legally was applied to governmental bodies, it has now become a part of our culture whether in the workplace, the campus or a political organization. Personally, I actually agreed with about 80% of his views but I never trusted him. He claimed to be half Sicilian and half Palestinian. I would hate to break it to him but neither one of those groups are a nation nor a nationality. The are a self-centered cluster of people who only care about themselves. He also went out of his way to be viciously anti-Israel. I never heard him condemn 1.3 Billion Chinese living under a fascist dictatorship with crony capitalism at the top. I never heard him say anything about 40 million Muslims in western China who are persecuted by the central government and the Party.
He was always very selective in his outrage. Good riddance. His departure will make the progressive movement stronger.
I have my concerns about a rush to judgment, zero tolerance and lack of due process regarding allegations against men, often when they were not in their current position that they are then forced to resign from. As much as I despise his views on Israel and his fake nationality claims, I think a suspension would have been more in order and then hosting a week on sexual harassment. The punishment should fit the crime. He was not accused of touching a female inappropriately. He wrote some stupid manchild words. My wife and I raised a daughter. By the time that she was in high school, the things that she and her female friends would talk about and the language that they used was 100 times worse than this. And that was over 20 years ago. The way young females talk now about sex is far beyond what this guy wrote.
Overkill to fire him for words written before he was a progressive and before he was affiliated with the organization.

  3. The reaction by JD sounds reasonable. I’m not certain ousting was the best move, but the JDs want focus on the candidates. I wouldn’t have asked him to leave. He’s not a day-to-day JD worker.

I listened to one gripe about a fairly recent video. – Really? That’s the most weak sauce chat about women I’ve ever heard. If you’re offended by this, you need to take a chill. It’s also a post game, available to only paid members. Those members are familiar with Cenk’s ex-girlfriend, Zara (Zarha?). Believe me, if she felt like he was being a dick in this conversation, she’d let him know.
